This Youth Privacy Notice explains, in simpler terms, how information about Teen Users may be collected, used, and shared when you use the WaySense app and related Services.
This notice is intended for Teen Users using the Services through an account created or managed by a parent, guardian, Account Holder, or authorized Group.
WaySense is designed to help users understand driving activity and support safer driving habits.
Depending on settings and permissions, the app can:
• detect when a trip starts or ends
• collect location during trips or active sessions
• use inward-facing or outward facing camera features, where enabled
• use microphone features, where enabled
• identify certain driving events or behaviors (such as speeding, hard braking, or certain distracted-driving behaviors)
• generate alerts, scores, summaries, or coaching insights
• allow communication within a Group where features are available
Some features may use automated systems (sometimes called machine learning).
Depending on how the app is set up by you, your Account Holder, or an Administrator, we collect information, including Personal Information, such as:
• name, username, email, or profile details
• trip history
• location information
• driving activity information (such as braking, acceleration, speed, motion signals, seatbelt usage indicators, or certain distracted-driving indicators)
• images or video inside or outside the vehicle where camera features are enabled (users can separately turn inward-facing and outward-facing camera features on or off, depending on device and plan settings)
• audio collected along with collected images or video where microphone features are enabled
• app settings and notification preferences
• messages sent through in-app communication tools, where available
The app is generally intended to be set up before driving begins, and is to be used while the phone is positioned on a secure mount that does not block the driver’s view.
Depending on settings, the app may automatically detect movement, start a trip, or run in the background after setup.
You should not interact with the app or your phone in a way that distracts you while driving.
If sounds, alerts, or notifications are distracting, they should be turned off or adjusted while safely parked.
Who can view information, including Personal Information, depends on how the account or Group is set up. If you are in a Group, the Group Administrator may be able to see your trips and may receive notifications about certain driving events, alerts, or when you change certain settings such as location sharing.
Depending on permissions, information may be visible to:
• an Account Holder
• a parent or guardian
• an Administrator
• other authorized Group Members
• an Organization using the app for driver education programs, fleet use, or similar purposes, where applicable
This may include trip activity, location, alerts, scores, images, video, audio, or related driving information.
Not every user has the same access.
If you are using the app through a household or family Group:
• a parent, guardian, Account Holder, or Administrator may have access to certain information
• they may receive alerts or trip updates
• they may be able to adjust some settings depending on permissions
If the app is provided through an employer, fleet, or other Organization account, that Organization may have access to certain Personal Information, driving information, trip-related information, alerts, scores, images, video, audio, or reports based on account settings.
Referral or promotional partners do not automatically receive access solely because someone used a referral link or promotion.
Depending on the setup, an Organization may also:
• set some permissions or visibility rules
• receive certain alerts or reports
• have its own rules or policies about use of information
If you have questions in those situations, you may need to contact that Organization directly.
Depending on your role and device settings, you may be able to control:
• camera permissions
• microphone permissions
• profile settings
• password or login settings
• location permissions
• notification settings
• sound alerts
• some app preferences
Some settings may be controlled by your Account Holder or Administrator.
Turning off certain app or personal phone settings may limit app features.
• The app is meant to support awareness and coaching, not replace safe driving judgment.
• Alerts and scores may not always be accurate. For example, speed-related alerts may not immediately reflect recent speed-limit changes or temporary road conditions.
• Device placement, battery life, connectivity, and permissions can affect how features work.
• When using a phone mount, it should be positioned safely and not block visibility.
• If a device overheats or becomes unsafe to use, stop using it until the issue is resolved. If safe to do so, move the device to a cooler location out of direct sunlight before continuing use.
• If interior camera features are enabled, passengers may appear in images or video captured by the app.
• If microphone features are enabled, passengers may be heard in connection with images or video captured by the app.
• Keeping the app updated may help features work properly and improve security or performance.
If you have questions about privacy or how the app works, you can:
• review the full Privacy Policy
• talk with your parent, guardian, Account Holder, or Administrator (if applicable)
